1/26 - TML

Apparently I'm not the only one in the city with a strong nostalgia for Pikachu.

first girl is my hero

That first girl is a walking yeast infection. If this is hot Twin Cities fashion, I don't want to fit in. Ever.

To the anonymous comment above:

The website says street fashion, not "hot fashion." If you're looking for something safe, stick with suburban shopping malls and JcPenny. Here we like to celebrate the expressive.

Yeah, and better watch out, anon, I'm pretty sure the first girl has to be a super hero, so she might do a kick-punch combo on ya with super strength.

The second guy also has to be a super hero and his super power is turning into 100-ft-tall Paul Bunyan when he gets mad. See, in the pic it's starting to happen...

Hot fashion...I'd rather have super hero girls and Paul Bunyans.

Fair enough, i.e. "street fashion" versus "hot fashion". Wishing violence on from superheroes on me isn't the answer, though. Just because I think this outfit is hideous doesn't mean I shop at JC Penny, and I don't live or shop in the 'burbs.

Does this blog photograph only the fugly? I'm usually at more than half of the events featured on here. I see plenty of guys and gals wearing interesting, original outfits. Do those ever get featured on here? No! It's the same fugly American Apparel tights, brown slouchy boots and some hideous mis-matched print dress or in this case sparkly unitard. Show me something different for once!

Well said, Anonyamous #2. I am at a lot of the events featured here too. That is, when I am not out in Maplewood or Apple Valley shopping at JC Penny's. -Anonymous #1

Drama!

Yes, drama...One thing I want to ask Anon's (and I'm not being facetious, here): if you don't like this blog, why do you check it out?

Yes, we do get a lot of expressive kids out having fun, and a lot of people like that (see susieg and kat walks above). It's fun! But we also get traditionally nice stuff. And old men wearing "Cheers" shirts. We like variety.

So, respectfully, if you want to see something else, you should start your own blog! If it sounds like I'm just being a snot, here, I'm not, I'm completely serious. You should, the more the merrier! Or if you see us out and you see we're missing some good fashion, just let us know. It's hard to be everywhere at once.

thanks!

I'm not being a hater. I do like the Minneapoline. I voted every day for you guys on street clash. My only point was that I have seen ten too many pictures of American Apparel tights lately. It's not "hot street" fashion anymore. It's not even original. I like your random shots of people on the street or at events. Maybe it's just Too Much Love that looks the same all of the time. Any. #2

Hallelujah to the ending American' Apparel's reign of spandex terror!

ellen said...

Gotcha, #2. I'm not into the spandex, either. It reminds me of dance classes first through fifth grade with my sadistic dance instructor who (I think) liked to make little girls cry...*flashbacks*

May I suggest a TML hiatus? I know that it's probably an easy way to check out some interesting outfits, and it's definitely netted some good results before, but like everyone has said, too much AA lame'. Not trying to be shitty, but trying to be helpful.

I will say that nothing is easier/better to dance in than some glorious spandex. Although it is AA stuff potenially, I think the thing that really makes these outfits hot street fashion is the attitudes of the wearers behind them- where the outfit really becomes a component of the wearer. With this ability, they could rock the hell out of some trash bags.

People are ignoring the fact that metallic spandex isn't JUST and American Apparel thing. It's being seen at all budget levels and all fashion scenes from vintage to (perhaps more famous than AA) high-fashion runway like Brian Lichtenberg. I don't think it's a TML thing or an AA thing. I think it's just a fashion thing and that it's a lot more prevalent than some of the previous commenters realize.
